Whole Foods Haul!

Hey everyone!! As I mentioned in my past few posts, my food supply has been sparse and sad. I finally had the time and funds to go do a full on grocery shopping, and I was so excited with my haul I wanted to share it with you!!

Check it out!! Please excuse the photos, I took them with my phone!

Vega Protein powder, 4 larabars, one apple cinnamon Pure bar and a Vega protein bar in case I need a high protein snack on the go. I normally don't eat that many bars, but I want to keep them in my bag as an emergency snack since I'm trying to eat every 2 to 3 hours and sometimes eating a full meal isn't always possible.

This is an interesting salad I found in the prepared section! Chickpea edamame salad with carrots and dried cranberries. Can't wait to try this!

Frozen edamame and extra frozen blueberries.

Almond milk, silken and firm tofu and tempeh! I've never made tempeh before but word on the street is you steam it first then you can crisp it? Help!

Lots of produce!! A bunch of kale (going to make some kale chips in the oven because I don't have a dehydrator, wah!), one avocado, big ol' cucumber, celery (which I don't really like but I'm going to try it out), spinach, carrots, zucchini and 4 Pink Lady apples. No organic honeycrisps so Pink Ladies are a perfect substitution.

I got this from the prepared bar for dinner since it was getting late and I still had a 20 minute trip home. Sesame tofu and a delicious cucumber/tomato salad with a light, crisp red wine vinaigrette. Perfect end to the day.

So that's what's in my fridge now! Can't wait to make lots of new stuff and show it off here! Starting tomorrow night I'll be observing Passover for 8 days (I'm not particularly religious I do it more out of respect for my family) so you won't see any grains here except quinoa. It'll be interesting to see what I come up with!

Hope you all have a lovely night!

  1. Great haul! That chickpea salad looks great. What kind of dressing is on it? I could see trying to make something like that very soon.

For tempeh, we either steam it or bake it. If you want to get it crispy, then the best way (IMO) is to steam it and then fry it up. Baking it always makes it pretty crispy for us, though, which is what we prefer. We purchase the same brand as you got. :)

The tofu in your dinner looks perfectly made. Yum!!

    1. Thanks Molly! I don't remember the dressing on the chickpea salad...the tag said vegan and that was all I needed. I was in such a rush to get out of there (it was a nightmare, annoying people shop there to begin with, nevermind being the Thursday before Easter!) that I just grabbed some. It is some sort of a vinaigrette though.

Thanks for the tempeh tips! I'll probably steam it then bake it up. I am figuring out how I want to use it :)

  2. Fantastic food!! Looks like quite a few days of great eats! I've not ever prepared tempeh, so I can't say. What are you ideas for the celery? I'd always recommend having them raw with peanut butter, or as a soup base with carrots and onions. And kale chips, too?! Delicious!!

    1. Thanks Ingrid! My plan was to eat the celery with nut butter and raisins because I thought that would be the only way to make it edible. I don't know why I just really don't like celery. I'll probably try with hummus too :) Can't wait to make my kale chips!

I don't steam my tempeh.. just marinate and dry fry/grill and it tastes great. Let us know what you try?

  4. Well, at least I know one person will enjoy my fitness posts! haha If there is anything in particular you'd like to see, let me know! I've never been good about keeping up with my running but have stuck to it these past 6 months (took a month off before that because I needed new shoes) so I'm feeling good! Signing up for races helps too. Yes, intervals for sure! It makes a huuge difference.

I included links to those recipes, silly! haha Oh Ladycakes has the raw apple pie. She has amazing recipes!

    1. Haha yes I will for sure! Do you recommend the shoes that you have now or are there others I should check out? In my head I'm planning on alternating between interval running and interval training on a spin bike. We have some at my gym so I'll have to figure that out for myself :) I'm excited to get started!!

Oops I missed the links somehow!! I LOVE Ashlae's site, her recipes look so beautiful and amazing! I need to make that apple pie soon ha!

  5. Nice haul. We have a lot of bars in the house now, mostly for Sweetie's lunches, but they are good for snacks on the go. I have not cooked tempeh, but I have eaten it and enjoyed it. I'm sure you'll find something good to make with it. I know some people prefer Honeycrisp, but I think Pink Ladies are the best apples.

    Happy Passover.

    1. Thanks Miss Rachel! I love bars but try to limit them. I LOVE pink lady apples, they are tied with honeycrisps as my favorite :) So delicious!

      Thanks!

  6. I just marinate my tempeh and bake it in a covered dish in the oven for about 20-30 mins.

Never had a Pink Lady Apple. I'll have to risk trying one.

Yes, the grocery stores have been a real nightmare lately! I don't remember this in years past.

    Happy Passover!

    1. Oooh thanks for the tip! Definitely try the pink lady! So delicious! People have just become more obnoxious recently. I don't understand it but at this point I just try to get in and get out if I go in the evening, but I still prefer getting there when they open.

      Thanks!
