Detox Day 3 and an Epic FAIL

So Shen graciously reminded me that I was supposed to try and make a baby food green smoothie and I figured there is no time like the present to try it!

First, this is a terrible pic so I'm sorry about that! Second, I was in a rush so I simply threw a frozen banana and a packet of baby food (spinach, peas and pears) into a blender and pureed it up. Um. EW. I think I'm just not a green smoothie girl because it was NASTY! I don't think I was expecting it to actually taste like veggies. It also yielded about 1/3 of a mug of smoothie so if I try it again I'll try all fruit baby food and I'll probably add another banana.

I didn't drink the smoothie and knew I needed something for breakfast so I cut up an apple and put some almond butter in a container and was out the door.

Sorry I don't have pics for the rest of my meals but for lunch I ran to the deli and grabbed a small container of stewed zucchini and some beans. No rice, wah! :(

No dinner yet. It'll probably be roasted veggies and hummus. Maybe a pickle ;)

Have a great night and yay for Friday tomorrow!

  1. At least you tried it! I can't stomach green smoothies, either. The most I've been able to handle is a few spinach leaves. Anything beyond that is just not to my tastes.

  2. Alright, fine. I'll be on the next plane out, and I will personally prepare a green smoothie for you that won't taste disgusting. :)

You are so strong! No grains would be really tough (which means that I should try it!). Keep going - you're almost to the end of week one!!

  3. I think I put pea shoots in a smoothie once and it was GROSS. That was probably where the damage came from. Too bad! The fruit version sounds good though.

  4. Molly - I've given green smoothies many chances I think I just prefer to eat my veggies :) I think I eat enough throughout the day so I'm going to stick to pure fruit smoothies.

Ingrid - Haha yay! My own personal green smoothie chef, sweet! I am doing ok with no grains, breakfast is the only meal that is tough for me. You know how much I love my oats, but I can manage for 2 weeks!

FF- Eek! I don't know, I've been told that it is possible to make green smoothies and mask the taste of the veggies but this tasted like veggies...and not in a good way! Definitely sticking with just fruit :)

  5. Sorry your smoothie didn't turn out good. I have to admit that the whole green baby food thing doesn't sound very appetizing. ;0 I think you would like one of my green smoothies though. Too bad you live so far away.
You can never go wrong with an apple and almond butter. :0)

  6. lol! Sounds like you needed more fruit or liquid. Green smoothies don't have to taste green! Easiest way is to make a regular smoothie but add some spinach and kale. You don't taste the greens.

I've never heard of using green baby food. Why not just regular greens?

  7. Too bad. Maybe baby food only tastes good to babies. I love adding cucumber and coconut water to green smoothies...makes it a little sweet and refreshing, esp. with a little cinnamon added.

  9. Michelle - Haha well the only ingredients were spinach, peas and pears so it was like throwing that into a blender. I've tried green smoothies before I can never get the proportions right. I also like my smoothies a bit sweet so who knows.

Sophie - I know that is normally what I do but it never tastes right. I tried the baby food because I thought it would be a shortcut to use already pureed greens. Not so much hahahaha.

Rose - Oooh coconut water would be great! It is supposed to be great for rehydration. ANd you know how much I love cinnamon!!

Sage - Hahaha glad I could help? ;) I'm gonna stick to chewing my greens too

  10. Peas are HORRIBLE in smoothies! I drink green smoothies all the time. I could give you a recipe you could stomach. If my non vegetable eating husband and brother can, I know you can :)

  13. Haha I wasn't blaming you :) It was 100% my fault for thinking it would be a good idea to use baby food containing peas to make a green smoothie! Not good.
