New Year's Resolutions

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for your patience while I was away :) I'm back now and I should hopefully be able to post a lot more often now. I hope you all had a lovely week and have been enjoying the end of the holiday season.

I'm not usually someone to make New Year's resolutions but I decided to try it out this year. I am looking at it more as an evaluation of my year and just where I want to be by this time next year and I'm going to take it from there. So this is pretty much how I see it...

I think that in general I have pretty good habits regarding my health. I work out a lot and for the most part I eat pretty healthy. My resolution in terms of health is to reverse my worst habit which is my inconsistency. When I am not being lazy I'm really on top of things but once I get lazy I just stop in my tracks. For example, the apple cider vinegar. I'm really good about it most of the time but when I get off track it isn't for a day, it is for a week. I feel the effects of taking that much time off. I need to be more consistent and I've been getting better lately so I think this is definitely an obtainable goal.

My other resolution is to reduce my stress. I am the kind of person that takes things very personally and I let everything affect me.  I need to mellow out about things like that and let things roll off my back because I think that it'll really make me a much happier person. I also need to make sure I consciously take "me" time. The winter is the perfect time to start making this a habit because I have time. Once I make it part of the routine it will hopefully follow me into the busy season and help to make that a less stressful time.

The main theme of my "resolutions" is to start forming new habits. This is really the only way to make sure that you stick to your resolutions. It is easy to go to the gym and eat right for a few weeks, but if you don't commit to making it a habit or a lifestyle, you fall off the wagon by the end of January. I feel like we've all been there.

So, now that I've done the somewhat obligatory resolution summary, I figured I'd show you something you don't see much on this blog. As you all know by now I'm not much of a drinker. I rarely ever drink actually. I wanted a margarita for my birthday and it never happened lol. I can't drink beer because of the wheat and I really am not a fan of wine. I will taste wines to try and change that because I see nothing wrong with a glass of wine now and then but have never found one I really like. Then I found out that I like sweet dessert wines, mostly moscatos.

This one is especially delicious. I've never heard of or seen a red moscato before, but I had given this one a try at the Chocolate Trade Show I went to a few months ago. It is called Red Electra and is made at the Quady Winery which, according to my "Is Your Wine Vegan?" app, is vegan. I only drink wine once or twice every couple of months and decided to have a (admittedly large) glass this week while I was at my bro's house last week. I will have another glass to celebrate New Year's Eve tomorrow night :) After that I probably won't have a drink for a few months. For the record, I was DEFINITELY feeling that glass when I was done, which is a pretty good indication of how rarely I drink.

What are your resolutions, if you make them?

P.S. My abs and triceps are on fire today. Good training session yesterday ;)

  1. I think your resolutions are very doable! I don't make them myself, but I do have the goals that I listed on my blog a while back.

Do you drink some apple cider vinegar every day? I must have missed that.....

I don't drink, either, but have made a rare exception for a sweet wine. Like you, I certainly feel it after just a half glass!

Have a wonderful new year, Sarah!

  2. Mmmm, beer is definitely my vice. :) Good luck with your resolutions - I typically don't make them at this time of year because I get so busy, but the concept of building positive habits and setting goals is definitely worthwhile! Happy holidays!

  3. Those are legit resolutions, I think.
I never make new year's resolutions but I have been considering it. So much has happened this year that I kind of think I need to set a solid direction for myself. I'm always too scattered :)

WOO for the sweet wine. And double WOO for the Van Gogh poster I see behind it. He's my idol. I have poster's of his work all over my room. And in the bathroom. Ha!

  4. Very sensible resolutions, and very doable. I totally hear you on the stress thing - that's my worst; it really sets everything else off, too, and makes doing just about anything good for you impossible.
I definitely enjoy my alcohol..ha.. but never really got into wines. Glad you found something you enjoy (moderately). Happy new year!

  5. First off; "I'm on fire! May Day! May Day! I'm on fire"

Okay, thanks, had to get that out of the way.

    Second off: it's: 'FIYAH!!!'

Third off: Nice wine glass. Is that a Riedel glass sitting on your brother's granite countertop?

Fourth off: I'm against the whole 'society says January 1st is the first day of a new year' thing, so just keep on doing what you're doing and if you want to change anything, what difference does it make what day the 'so-called' calendar says it is. Ya know? For serious.

  6. Thanks Molly! I try to drink apple cider vinegar diluted in water but I tend to fall off the wagon. I really want to get back in the habit because I felt really good when I did and tis the season for me to get sick every 10 minutes...so hopefully that will help me avoid that.

Allysia - I never was a big beer person and now that I am avoiding wheat it is clearly off the table. Thank you so much and happy new year to you too!

Isobelle - I'm right there with you, definitely in need to slow down and get everything in order. My sister in law love sunflowers so she has all kinds of sunflower art, the Van Gogh included :)

Maud - I stress about EVERYTHING so that is probably going to be my biggest obstacle. Let's hope we can both relax a little in 2012 :)

Shen - Haha! I don't know what kind of glass it is :X I'm a wine novice but I agree they do have nice wine glasses. They are so big though I didn't realize how much they hold! Oops! I am usually right there with you about resolutions which is why I don't typically make them. I actually tend to make resolutions throughout the year...I'm pretty sure you can see that in my archives. I think I decided to sit down and put all of my thoughts together because I wasn't especially happy with how this past year went and I just wanted to figure out how to make next year better :)

  7. Good luck with your resolutions. I agree that winter is a great time to self-reflect and work on things. Wine is definitely one of my weaknesses. I'm going to be reducing my consumption significantly this coming year...and probably drop a few pounds while I'm at it.

    Happy New Year Sarah!!

  8. Making new habits is a great resolution. I'm the same way with alcohol. I have wine every few weeks and I'm Miss Tipsy before I get through the first glass. Have a great New Year's Eve!

  9. Great post! Love the idea of focusing on continuing to make good habits! I'm the exact same way about doing things - steady, then off the wagon. They say 21 days to make a habit, maybe that's what I should make my goal.

Sounds like you also had an amazing workout!

    Happy New Year, Sarah!!

  10. Rose - Thanks. I was so looking forward to my glass of wine tonight but I ended up feeling yucky so I had to trade it in for tea :( Wah! Happy New Year!

Nikki - It's pretty great to be a cheap date...especially for the waistline! ;) Everyone thinks it's funny and it kind of is. Happy New Year to you!

Ingrid - Thank you so much! That is exactly what I heard about 3 weeks to make a new habit, which is why most people are done with their resolutions by January 14. I'm already anticipating a busier gym over the next few weeks but oh well :) I definitely had an amazing workout, and another one today! Happy New Year!

  11. I don't drink at all--I'm boring like that. My husband likes moscato, though.

I have a love/hate relationship with new years resolutions. On the one hand, I think we should always try to better ourselves, but on the other hand, I don't think we should wait for a specific date to get started.

You're so right about doing great for a few weeks and then having it drop off. I think I'll try for some consistency in the new year.

    Have a great new year's eve! :)
