New Day, New Attitude

I woke up this morning and I was tired. Tired from being stressed, my body was sore and tired from training and most importantly, I was tired of being sad, anxious and in the middle of one massive pity party. That's not me.

I made my breakfast and as I was sipping my smoothie I started to feel better. I decided that today is the day that things were going to get better, because I was going to make them better. And so I did.

I had wanted to start running today but while I'm feeling better than I did when I woke up, I wasn't up for a run on the treadmill. I had temporarily decided to do yoga instead, but I really wanted to run so i busted out the rebounder and decided to do a 30 minute no impact run on there. I have recently come up with an idea to watch YouTube videos of my favorite fighter(s) to help inspire me while I do my cardio. It really works because while I find running incredibly tedious and boring, that 30 minutes flew by. I feel really good that I finally started again. I'll probably do another 30 minutes tomorrow and then run on the treadmill for a few minutes to warm up for my training session on Thursday. I'll take it from there.

Good meals on tap for today.

For breakfast, a PINA COLADA GREEN SMOOTHIE!!!!! Yes, I went there!

Pina Colada Green Smoothie

Blend the following:
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 small or 1/2 of a large banana
1-2 tbsp unsweetened coconut chips (the thick sliced dried coconut)
2 cups spinach
1 cup favorite plant milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

Lunch was a HUGE, amazing chopped salad. This one has mesclun greens, carrot, cucumber, sun dried tomatoes, mixed sprouts (broccoli, clover and mustard) and some avocado. Dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. Holy yum! This thing was super filling too. I was starving when I made it and now I'm super stuffed (I'm typing this up after lunch and before work).

Continuing the citrus love by bringing another orange for my afternoon snack today.

For dinner I'm bringing my standard stuffed grape leaves, hummus, cucumber and carrot dinner plate.

I guess it really is mind over matter. I just need to make sure that I stay positive and do what I need to do to make sure that I stay happy which includes enjoying the little time that I have to myself. I think this means getting a massage soon. My sister in law goes to a place that is great and inexpensive. I think I'll treat myself to one this weekend.

Hope you all enjoy your day! Thanks for all of your support over the past few days, I really appreciate all of you so much.

  1. Glad you're feeling better!! Sometimes, when I feel sick, I find that running actually makes me feel better...like I'm sweating out the sickiness or something.

    1. Thanks Bianca! It was more of an emotional slump but in either case I agree, some good exercise really helps!

  2. The mind certainly is a powerful thing. It sounds like you're pulling yourself out of the funk quite successfully!

The smoothie sounds terrific and is such a pretty color. I adore green.

    1. Thanks Molly! I've found that it takes far more energy to be sad and depressed and angry than to power through and be ok with everything. I have also learned that things could be far worse.

      Thanks! It was really delicious!

  3. So true! Many times I walk into a situation / day cranky, and not thinking positively. You are my reminder that we can decide how the day will go! Thank you!

I almost picked up some frozen pineapple yesterday - totally should have! That smoothie sounds amazing!

    Major salad envy over here...

    Hooray for massages!

    1. Aww thank you Ingrid. It is amazing how powerful positive thinking is. I really truly felt better after I decided enough was enough.

Oooh next time totally get it! The smoothie was delicious!

I hope I have time to get my massage! I think I'll just have to make time :)

    1. Thanks Shen! The avocados are always from Whole Foods. I like to think I've become a master produce picker :)

  5. Hey, great job on busting out the run today! I have recently re-started running and it really helps me to have a partner who gets and keeps me going, but it's hard to do it on my own. I'm working on it.

That salad is gorgeous! I think I'm going to have to try your chopped salad method some time soon. Speaking of gorgeous, your manicure that made it into one of the pictures on Saturday's post looked great, what I could see of it anyway.

Glad you're having a good week!

    1. Thanks! I have a long way to go but at least the motivation is coming back!

Definitely try the chopped salad! I have no idea why but it just tastes better to me. Aww thanks, they are really chipped right now but I love this purple.

So far so good! Hope things are looking up for you too!

  6. Great idea with the rebounder. I've never done it but it sounds like a lot of invigorating fun. I bet the smoothie was fantastic - the salad looks great as well. Love the sprouts on there :) Glad to hear you're feeling more positive. You definitely deserve a bit of time for yrself.

    1. The rebounder is really great, it allows me to run when I'm incredibly sore with no stress on my joints and whatnot. I was (and still am) incredibly sore from my training session last night but still got some cardio in with the rebounder.

The smoothie was really great and the sprouts totally added to the salad. And thanks, I'm definitely going to try and get some "me" time this weekend.

  7. I'm so glad you were able to change your attitude! What a smart idea to watch videos while you run. I have a spa gift certificate that I've had for months but haven't used. Maybe I should schedule a massage too. :)

    1. Thanks Sage! I find the videos inspiring. The fighter I tend to watch most (my favorite by far) is so inspiring... on his days off from fight training he does triathalons and marathons. He's in sick shape.

You should totally get a massage! You deserve it!
