Photo Shoot!

Hey everyone! Sorry for the brief hiatus but Thursday was a pretty uninspired day and I ended up working a wedding yesterday and was out all day until late. I'll post a catch up post tomorrow :)

Last night I saw a post by a friend on Facebook asking if anyone had a camera that would take high resolution photos. I knew he was selling his car so I offered to do the shoot for him. I guess I'm just nice like that ;) I knew the perfect location for it too so today after I got out of work we went and I took pics of his car for about an hour or so. I'm really happy with how they turned out and decided I'd like to share them with you!

It started to flurry in the middle of the shoot! I was SOOOO cold!

This was actually a detail shot to show the scratches on the bumper or whatever it is (not a car person obviously) but I LOVED the way this angle looked!

You can really see the flurries here!

Cool angle with the graffiti wall in the background.

I took a shot at getting this lens flare and it worked out really well. This may be my favorite shot. Look at how sunny it got after the brief snow!

Against the train tracks.

He had asked me if there was a way I could get a shot of the car with the train blurred in the background when it passed by. I told him I could sure as hell try. I wasn't expecting it to come out as well as it did so I'm pretty excited about this shot too!

So that's the best of the best. There were a lot of small detail shots because he is trying to sell it but I actually had a lot of fun with the shoot. He has a lot of friends that are major car guys that he said will probably be interested in doing a shoot after they see these so it may end up being a great way to stay busy and working/shooting during the winter!

I hope you all have had a great weekend so far! I'll be back tomorrow to post some meals from the past few days!

    1. Thanks Claire! The train one was a one shot deal because it was SOOOOO cold waiting for it I definitely wasn't going to wait for another one! I had never actually tried this shot before but knew how to do it so I'm so glad it came out on the first try!

  2. You know, it's funny that you said you're not a car person - you did such a nice job with these photos I found myself thinking, "She must really love the subject!" But I guess you're just that talented. That is a cool location, too. I like the graffiti'd walls.

    1. Aww thanks that's so nice! I know NOTHING about cars, obviously because mine is broken all the time. He told me what he likes and I went with that. He loves the low angle so I just moved around the car shooting low and decided what angles look best. I saw the sun and tried for the lens flare which worked out well. If I end up doing shoots for his friends I'm going to have to look up references though bc it would help to have some different angles and a little more knowledge :) That wall is so random here but I knew about it and thought it would be perfect, especially because we could use the tracks too!

  3. It was cold as f*ck today, wasn't it? Good pictures. I don't really know much about the subject either, but it looks like a nice car. I like the one with the train the best though because I love trains.

    1. OMG it was FREEZING! I was not happy about waiting for the train at the time but in the end it paid off for sure! It is a very rare car I guess, it was pretty cool, the color is great for photos :)

  5. These are fantastic photos - I echo the above sentiments; you are really talented! I love that it might bring a potential side project / income during the non-wedding season (even though you mentioned one happening yesterday).

What kind of camera do you use? (I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but can't remember!)

    1. Thanks Ingrid! The potential of some business is huge because the winter is really tough financially. The wedding was the first of the season for me and probably the last one for a few months too, unless something last minute pops up.

I use a Nikon d90. My favorite lens for food photography is the 50mm but I used a wide angle for this shoot.

  6. That's why you're a professional photographer. I would see this vehicle and probably say, 'forget it. not interested in taking a pic of it'. (No appreciation for cars here).

    1. Thanks Shen :) I have no appreciate for cars either but I was really excited about the shots. I think it was also because he was so happy with them. When I look at the photos I don't see this rare car, I see the photo as a whole...things like lighting, angles, composition, etc.

  7. These turned out great! I like the lens flare shot the best. It's got great character! I'm sure you'll help to get his car sold. :)

    1. Thanks Molly! He's got a lot of interest already :) he posted the pics to a forum and he had over 1000 views within 15 hours. The other posts that have the same amount of views have been posted for weeks.

We have similar taste :) I love the composition of that one, it was definitely one of my favs.
