Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse Take 2: Day 10

Hey everyone! I've hit the double digits in this cleanse! I'm so happy to say that I'm feeling great and definitely noticed some differences yesterday during my 12 hour work day (which I'll get into in a minute!). I was really happy that I was able to keep up with my cleanse at work as I was concerned that I would be limited at the catering hall but I ate a Larabar as a snack while we were running around during the day and was able to load up on raw foods at the cocktail hour. The place was nice enough to make me a plate of veggies as my dinner too! I was happy that I was able to stick with it in a less than ideal situation. Staying hydrated really helped too and I'm usually bad at that on the job but I was mindful of it yesterday :)

I have to say that I had a really great day yesterday despite being at work! I was pretty bummed because my family was having a Memorial Day get together with some of our family friends yesterday and I was missing out on the festivities but I'm kind of used to it. I miss a lot of events during the summer because of work which sucks but it's all part of having a job that fluctuates with the seasons. Yesterday we spent a lot of time at a little beach community that has an 11 block radius. I loved it there. It made me want to move to the beach really badly actually. Everyone was riding around on their cruisers and I was so jealous! This is what I saw in front of the church!

A whole row of bikes! I love that people actually rode their bikes to church. I was obsessed with the orange one in front. I think my new dream is to move to the beach :) We shot their portraits on the beach and I was enjoying every moment in the cool ocean breeze, got a nice little tan on my face and soaked up the vitamin D. I also realized how much my change in eating has affected my thinking when I found myself thinking, "yum, that looks so good!" every time I saw bright green seaweed washed up on the beach. Ha!

Anyway, as I was saying before, I noticed how the cleanse has positively affected me in relation to work. 10 hours is a long day to be on your feet, constantly moving and carrying about 40 lbs of equipment. The photographer I work with a lot once made a joke about how I "turn" during cocktail hour. Meaning I go into bitch mode. I used to get really cranky before the reception because of a lack of energy, lack of food and what was an apparent caffeine crash! I didn't realize how much the crash would effect me! Last night I had energy and was in a great mood. I really truly believe it is because of how I've been treating my body.

Anyway, this morning I woke up feeling a bit tired but not anywhere near as bad as I usually feel the day after a wedding. I went out to do some Memorial day shopping with my mom and look what I got!!

A DEHYDRATOR!!! Finally! It's not an excalibur or anything but it'll do for now! I'm so excited to try it! And I also got a little $10 mandolin slicer to help cut down my prep time since it seems to have gone up quite a bit since eating more raw food. I'm so excited about the dehydrator and I have plans for it! I'm hoping to get to the store on Thursday and start dehydrating on Friday!

OK this post is already long and I haven't even gotten to the food yet from today so I'll make it quick!
It's been more of a snacky day but I think it has been fine and my dinner certainly added some bulk to the day :)

Breakfast was not so shockingly another smoothie. The same as the other day, frozen banana and strawberries, almond milk, Chocolate Vega and spinach.

Some watermelon and a few more strawberries as a snack when I got home from shopping.

A little while later I ate a roasted sweet potato with some organic, all natural ketchup. So good!

Then a little while after that I ate some unpictured seaweed snacks. Because I was craving them from yesterday ;)

For dinner I made a new quinoa bowl. It had quinoa, shredded carrot and zucchini and some lightly steamed broccoli. I topped it with some hummus as my seasoning and to make it a little creamy. It was very delicious but I think I added a bit too much hummus so I only ate 2/3 of it because it was kind of rich (if that makes sense?). Super delicious though!

So there you have it. I'm about halfway into my cleanse and feeling great. I have added some variety into my diet in terms of the meals I'm eating and I'm trying new things. I looked through Ani Phyo's cookbooks today and found some things I'd definitely like to make so that'll be good too. I saw a raw corn chowder that I'm dying to make! I'll wait until we get further into corn season though :) Oh and if anyone has any really great dehydrator recipes that I must try please pass them along! I can't wait to play!

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend! Back to the grind tomorrow, including my running. Enjoy the rest of your night!

  1. The quinoa bowl looks awesome! Broccoli and quinoa go together really well, I feel. maybe if you water the hummus down into a hummus dressing, less willgo a longer way and it won't be so creamy.
glad you were able to eat well at the wedding and not have an energy crash. Also, that dehydrator is so exciting! You have been wanting that for a long time, so I'm glad you felt like you were able to do that for yourself, finally. Can't wait to see what you make - maybe it'll finally convince me to pull mine down!

    1. It was so good! Yes, I will definitely use water next time and it will be a bit less intense! Thanks for the idea!

Thanks! The dehydrator is exciting! I forgot to mention that I was spoiled by my mom! I was all set to pay and then all of a sudden she was like nope I'm getting it. It was so nice of her! I feel bad that she got it but she wouldn't let me. But I'm so excited to try it out!

  2. YESSSS a dehydrator! You are going to have so much fun with it! I'm so excited to hear about your adventures with it.

Also, very glad to hear you are feeling so great! Congrats on all your progress with the cleanse too- you are eating some delicious looking food that is also so clean! Good for you for getting a special meal- I am so not the type to do things like that and I always am left stuck with nothing to eat and miserable. I need to get better at that!

I have a couple raw recipes on my blog ;)

Oh, and soaking and then redehydrating nuts helps make them easier to digest and the nutrients easier to absorb! Try that :)

    1. Hahaha I know! I can't wait I'm so excited! I'm so bummed that I can't get to the store until Thursday though! I guess I'll just start planning or something ;) And I was definitely planning on checking your blog for fun things to make! I have heard that about nuts too, I have a batch of almonds I want to get going at some point!

Thank you :) I'm really glad I'm finally feeling better. I've felt so sick for so long, it got incredibly depressing and it is good to finally feel like I have the energy to start living life again!

I normally don't make a big deal about making special requests. I asked what their veg option was and it was pasta which I can't eat so I just asked if they could put veggies on a plate and they said yes :) I've been to plenty of places where they don't give you a meal option or the only veg option has cheese so I've gone without meals, but there are a few that will accommodate and I always appreciate it! :)

  3. So excited for you about the dehydrator and mandoline!! You're going so have so much fun with them. Glad the cleanse is helping with your energy levels. As a 12-hour shift worker I know what those last few hours can be like if dehydration or hunger sets in. Good for you for taking care of yourself :)

    1. Thank you!! I am so excited to really get into it! I have so many things I want to make!

It's about time I take care of myself. I've been so bad to my body for too long and I am glad that I finally woke up and started to listen to what it needs. You always pack lovely energizing food, I should check your archives out for inspiration when I need to pack portable, non refrigerated meals :)

  4. What a fantastic long weekend!!! I'm so happy for you; to be feeling so many positive effects all in thanks to your efforts, what a sense of accomplishment! Do you have many weddings coming up?

Dehydrator! I can only imagine how giddy you must be feeling, and the mandolin will be so helpful. I think my dad used to dehydrate things in the early 90's, but it was often jerky. I do recall banana chips happening. I love dried pineapple! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures.

Love all your meals, and I'm thinking that the sweet potatoes might have been cut by your snazzy mandolin?

P.S. Yes, living by the beach sounds perfect! Shoes, dehydrator - check. Time for the cruiser! :)

    1. Thanks Ingrid! The whole wedding thing is kinda crazy, it depends on who needs an assistant for the day. I have checked the calendar and I hope to have one a week for most of June and July which I hope is true because I count on this for financial reasons since winters are so slow. It sucks to give up so much of the summer though.

I am definitely so happy! I've heard dried pineapple is yummy and I read in the manual that dried watermelon tastes like candy and I'm intrigued!

Haha cutting the sweet potato with my mandolin would have been the smart thing to do but I had put it away and didn't want to clean it :X

I should totally put a cruiser on the list ;) I want to live on the beach so bad! I need to figure out how to make that happen!

    1. Thank you so much! I appreciate all of the support I've been getting! I've been waiting a long time to get a dehydrator too! It was mostly a space issue because I ended up getting an inexpensive one to start with. I can't wait to start using it!

I am so with you, kitchen gadgets are exciting for me too :) In my dream kitchen I'd have an Excalibur dehydrator with a timer, a Vitamix blender and lots of fun gadgets like spiralizers and other fun things!

      Thanks you too!

  6. Congrats on finally getting the dehydrator. Sure hope you get to move to the beach sooner rather than later.

What a looooong wedding that couple had. How grueling for everyone. You should grab the DJ's microphone sometime and ask everyone to please just go home.

    1. Thanks Shen! Me too!

This wasn't even close to the longest day I've worked. I think my longest day was 16 hours with travel time included. That's not normal. A typical day when I work a wedding is 10 hours not including travel. On average I'm out 12 hours when I work a wedding. Definitely sucks. Haha trust me the thought has crossed my mind!
