Dinner Party Grocery Haul!

Hey everyone! Happy Thursday! So excited that I am going to have my first day off in two weeks soon  :) I'm extra excited that I get to spend time with my friends and cook a nice meal on that day. I have a wedding on Sunday but at least I'll have a chance to relax and do something fun on Saturday. I'm also finally getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow. It has literally been at least a year since I've cut my hair. I need a trim pretty desperately.

Before I get into the post, I got home from work last night and found out that my college (Undergraduate) was going to be featured on the SyFy show School Spirits! I went to SUNY Geneseo in upstate NY. I went way after the guy featured in the show and I actually had never even heard of that haunting even though I guess it is famous. We had a bunch of supposed hauntings in the school, and I would venture to say that the building that houses our radio station is haunted. I was really involved with the radio station and I hated being there alone at night. I experienced a few things that creep me out just thinking about it! Anyway, you can check out a short video here. If it doesn't link directly to it, the episode is called Dorm Room Nightmare. So creepy!

I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I feel like I work all the time and when I'm not working I'm at the gym or at a Dr. or something. I'm pretty exhausted and while I have Saturday off, next week is going to be really intense. Monday and Friday are short days but on Tuesday I am working 9-5 in the studio then I have a freelance party to shoot until 11 pm. Wednesday and Thursday I have weddings. It's going to be a long week but I think I have the weekend off next week? Fingers crossed!

Anyway, I decided to go to the grocery store this morning instead of after the gym so I could avoid traffic and keep the trip down to an hour instead of 2. I got a pretty sweet haul, most of which being for my dinner on Saturday :) I bet you can figure out what I'm making!

Zucchini, broccoli, raw agave, baby spinach, Daiya Mozzarella, avocados, Tofutti Better than Ricotta "Cheese," cherries and walnuts. Pretty sweet haul!

I grabbed my lunch from the prepared section since I was running late and didn't have time to make lunch before work so I grabbed some golden sesame tofu and black quinoa Asian slaw. So good!

I got clearance from my physical therapist for Bikram yoga (he's actually a big fan of yoga and thinks it'll be great for me) so I have taken off the next month from training at the gym and I'm switching to no impact cardio and Bikram yoga. I will probably start yoga on Monday :) I'm a big fan of Bikram yoga but I'm not a big fan of that first class after taking a really long break. It's pretty much torture but I'll survive!

OK I promise I will get some more food on soon. The next week will be a little light on food pics because I'm working so many weddings but I will post when I can. I will definitely show off my awesome dinner party eats either Saturday night or Sunday ;) Stay tuned for that!

Have a great night!

  1. I'm guessing there's a Spinach and Strawberry Salad to start and then Lasagna? I saw a Groupon today for a home catered meal for two: $100! You're friends are really gonna be pampered.

  2. I haven't been around much, either. Summer is always so busy! Good busy, though. :)

I'll have to check out that haunting video. I love that stuff!

The quinoa Asian slaw sounds terrific and you had a great haul. My first thought was lasagna, too.

I hope that the yoga is fun!

    1. Yes summer is super busy! I can't wait to slow it down and spoil myself at the salon tomorrow and cook a nice meal on Saturday.

The show was totally overdone but creepy nonetheless! It was so weird seeing the campus and all of the familiar scenery in the context! So strange!

The slaw was great! Haha see I knew the ingredients would give it away :)

Thanks! The first class will suck but after that I think it'll be great!

  3. This is so funny, I was just on the phone with my brother talking about how my alma mater (Univ. of Colorado at Boulder) has been calling me asking for donations - and we talked about how the school has so many ghost stories. I will check out the link above as soon as I leave this comment! Creepy radio station. . .wasn't there a movie with a killer and a college radio station?! Spooky!

I had no idea what you might create until Shen's suggestions. I'll go with those. :)

Only one day off?! Nooo!! Next week sounds crazy busy, especially with the weddings during the week! I hope it goes as well as possible.

I'm so excited for your trip to the salon - you deserve to be pampered!

    1. That is funny! Definitely check out the site, maybe they'll have a show based on one of those ghost stories! I was really creeped out watching it, mostly because they really overdid it and made it super creepy and I watched it late at night :X lol! OMG I'm so glad I didn't know that there was a movie based on that! I am still 100% convinced we had a ghost in there.

Haha Shen is indeed a great guesser!

Yeah the schedule is getting pretty intense. I could sit here a bitch about it but I'll just make sure to enjoy my free time as much as I can. Thank you very much, me too!

Thanks me too! Definitely needed to take care of it, I've let it go for so long! definitely in major need of a trim and some color ;)

    1. Dinner will be cooked but I'm thinking a raw dessert :) I hope they enjoy it! The quinoa slaw was delicious, it's the first time I saw it there! I'm always jealous of everyone else's WFs finds. We all want what we can't get!

Thank you so much, I'm definitely working on it :) You too, hope your ankle is better!

    1. Thank you! I can't wait and I'm planning on having lots of leftovers to freeze and take out on lazy days ;) Bikram is absolutely amazing. You'll hate the first class but after that it is addictive. I feel like a new person when I do it and you improve so quickly. I have very high hopes that it'll help for a speedy recovery! I definitely recommend trying it! Just make sure you go more than once bc that first class is going to be brutal :X Happy Friday!

  6. Sounds like you have been soo busy! You deserve a break :)

Your dinner sounds so lovely, I can't wait to see how it turns out! And don't worry about being a little absent. I feel like I have been a little too. Life just gets in the way sometimes and you know at the end of the day it's more important to live life than blog :)

Have fun with Bikram! I could never get into it, I prefer other kinds of hot yoga, but it's so good for you! I bet you'll find it helps a lot.

    Enjoy your day off tomorrow!

    1. Thanks Gabby! I have been busy but it's good I guess. I may be working a lot but I'm getting a major Vitamin D boost and a nice tan, lol!

Thanks! I love Bikram yoga. It makes me feel really clean and refreshed. I am very excited to start it again.

      Thanks!

  8. Schools are fertile grounds for ghost stories. Students just seem to love them and perpetuate them, and then they get passed on from class to class and never die. I believe there may be ghosts, but not a lot of the stories that people tell - ha ha! It must be cool seeing your school in that context indeed.

The ricotta makes me think of lasagna, and the zucchini means zucchini lasagna?
