Vegan Mofo Day 27: A Big Bummer

Hey everyone. Such a yucky day today, everyone has been really blah. I'm having a bit of a rough day and I'm really bummed out about it because it is majorly going to impact my training. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it on here but I have a bit of a shoulder issue. We haven't been able to figure out what it is yet. Last year I had an MRI done on my brain and ruled out anything to do with that but we never progressed any further. I have some flare ups and sometimes it is fine. I don't even know how to describe it. I don't have pain per se...it is more discomfort and the feeling that it is out of place. Then I have radiating discomfort down the back of my arm and into my thumb and pinkie.  I'm in the middle of a massive flare up, probably the worst I have had so far. I'm constantly shifting and adjusting my shoulder and it got so bad that I had to stop in the middle of my session and I'm not allowed to hit anything until I have it checked. So now I have to try and get into the neurologist sooner rather than later :( It really sucks and I'm really concerned about how it is going to effect my training.

I do have 2 meals to show you today.

For breakfast today I had avocado on gf toast and a big ol' bottle of water.

Lunch was a random mixture of things I was craving. I had an apple, carrot, some dolma and a big ol' half sour pickle. Everything was yummy but that pickle was SO GOOD.

No dinner yet, just trying to figure it out. I have to work a wedding tomorrow and will probably spend the morning trying to get an appointment for the doctor, which will inevitably be a joy.

Hope your day is going better than mine!

  1. Ow, that sounds painful. That must be really tough because I know how much you like your training sessions. I'm sending happy, healthy thoughts your way. Feel better soon. :)

I love me some pickles too--yum!

  2. Thanks Sage. It's not really painful, it is just limiting. I'm hoping that it isn't bad...I think I have a pinched nerve in my neck and if that is the case there isn't much I'll be able to do about it. I appreciate the well wishes :) The pickle was SO good! I love half sours.

  3. I hope your shoulder gets better, that sounds like an odd problem. Eck, though, pinched nerve does not sound like fun. Is there anything you can do for it?

  4. Thanks Maud. It is indeed an odd problem, and really aggravating. I don't really think there is much you can do for a pinched nerve. I'll probably have to get an MRI done which is not a good time. If they find something I guess I have to take it from there. I am limiting impact until I can get tests done which is really the worst part for me.

  5. Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Hope you can get to the bottom of it and get it cleared up. Sending you positive thoughts! And, that pickle does awesome!

  6. Thanks Rose! I just found out the neurologist I went to last time had a rating of 1 out of 5 which isn't surprising because I was really unhappy with how it went. So now I'm faced with the task of finding a new one and trying to get an appointment all while working a wedding today. This is so frustrating.

  7. Oh no! I am so sorry, and very frustrated for you! Pinched nerves sound really horrible. :( I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be an appointment, and relief, very soon.

  9. Thanks so much Ingrid and Michelle! It comes and goes, this is just a particularly bad flare up. If it is a pinched nerve I'm going to have to learn how to deal with it anyway.

  10. I'm not "training" so I can't relate to that disappointment :) - but I have had shoulder issues since highschool. I was once told it was bursitis. It doesn't hurt everyday. But when I have flare-ups, it is consuming. So I hope you get to the bottom of it and find a cure.

  11. Hope you find out what it is. I get shoulder pain when I don't move around my arms enough, but I know that's not your issue.

  12. Jenny - Thanks, I'm sorry that you have shoulder problems too. It is so uncomfortable but it looks like you have it under control

Shen - Haha maybe I move my arms too much?
