Thursday, January 5!

Sorry everyone, I couldn't think of a title so I just went with the date :) I'm so glad it is Thursday! I made the conscious decision to take this weekend and basically not leave the house after the gym Saturday morning. I'm going to start my big cleaning and just relax. I'll go to the gym as soon as it opens in the morning, then I'm taking the weekend completely off. I can't wait!

Let's check out the food!

For breakfast I had this big, beautiful bowl of oats. This one is oats, cinnamon, raisins, walnuts and coconut. SO GOOD!

Midmorning snack was an unpictured pear.

Lunch was stuffed grape leaves, carrots and hummus. Yum.

After my workout I made a protein shake and just drank it out of the mini blender cup. The all natural pea protein powder I got is not very tasty so I just try to get it down quickly. We did weight training today so it was a must.

Dinner was some veggie soup out of my gorgeous measuring bowl turned soup vessel ;)

Finally, I found an old gift card that still had money on it so I decided to treat myself to Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. I've wanted to read this book for a while. I have the general idea that your body should be alkaline (but I don't know HOW) and that you should be gluten free (which I am for the most part) and low glycemic (again don't know HOW) so I decided that this book will help. I hate that I get sick so easily so I decided to see what this book had to say and maybe I'll try the 21 day cleanse she discusses. I'm not going to lie, I bought pH testing strips already so I can see what the difference is from beginning to end. I've been inspired by Bianca of Vegan Crunk to give it a try. I'm going to read the book this weekend and hopefully be ready to give it a go by Monday. We'll see :)

Hope your week is going quickly! Happy Friday tomorrow!

  1. Gorgeous bowl of Oats and Vegetable Soup. If I were a bride, I'd want you as my photographer.

I am confused re: not leaving the house all weekend. It's only Thursday. Are you leaving the house tomorrow?

  2. Love all the food-carrying vessels included in this post! I can't wait for the weekend, as well!

I have this book - and I've read it! She has a lot of great points, and it reminded me a little bit of Alicia Silverstone's book. (Side note: I have addiction to books. My dream house includes a library, stocked by yours truly.) I read the cleanse section, and was good about following it - except for gluten! I bet you'll have tremendous success!!

  3. Aww thanks Shen! That is nice of you to say :) I am leaving the house tomorrow, I just made the decision of my shut in weekend today and I was really excited about it so I decided to post about it.

Ingrid - Thanks!! I am very excited to read this book. I have a total cookbook addiction...I think I'll provide evidence of this soon :) My only concern is that I know she depends a lot on green juices and I don't have a juicer...nor do I have money for a juicer so I'm probably going to end up with a lot of green smoothies instead of juice until I can remedy that. I guess it is better than nothing!

  4. Ooh, a slack weekend sounds nice! And oatmeal is always so good, it's one of the few foods I never seem to get tired of. And I love that book - I've read it at least three times, it's just so fun. And don't worry about not having a juicer - they're fantastic, don't get me wrong, but green smoothies are perfectly respectable and delicious. P.S., love that measuring bowl!

  5. Wow, you even make oatmeal look good, and that's no small feat! I love the look of the soup too, looks enormously slurpable and delicious.

Have a good weekend relaxing at home, sounds like a good plan.

I read Crazy Sexy Diet...her enthusiasm is contagious and she really gives you lots of good info. Since you're already vegan, GF, and don't drink a lot of booze, following the cleanse will be a dawdle for you! Let us know how it goes.

  6. "Crazy Sexy Diet" is on my to-read list too (along with about 100 other books). One of my resolutions is to actually start reading all the great books I hear about. I'm interested to see how your cleanse goes. Enjoy your free weekend!

  7. Allysia - I'm excited about relaxing and for the first time ever I'm excited about cleaning. I have so much stuff it is going to feel nice and cathartic to get rid of a lot of stuff I'm not using. Thanks, can't wait to read it and I'm still so excited about my new bowl :)

Rose - Aww thanks! The soup was SO good, very thick and chock full of veggies. I hope the cleanse is easy. You are right I do embody a lot of what she is talking about but the coffee detox is going to be brutal, as is the liquid meals until lunch. I'll have to get used to it but hopefully it'll be a smooth transition!

Sage - From the little bit I've read I would definitely recommend bumping it up on your list! It is so inspiring. Let me know what you think if you read it!
